Collection History
Collection history unknown; said to have been part of the collection of the artist George Catlin (1796-1872) in 1832; acquired by Catlin's biographer Thomas Corwin Donaldson (1843-1898) at an unknown date; acquired by Philadelphia businessman John Wanamaker (1838-1922) at an unknown date; donated to the Free Museum of Science and Art (later the University Museum at the University of Pennsylvania) in 1900 by John Wanamaker; acquired by George Heye through an exchange with the Free Museum in 1908.
