Collection history unknown; formerly in the collection of textile dealer David Benguiat (1866-1951, of London, England); acquired with other items from David Benguiat's collection by his brothers Vitall Benguiat (ca. 1859-1937) and Leopold Benguiat (1863-1953); purchased by MAI staff member Marshall H. Saville (1867-1935) for MAI trustee James B. Ford (1844-1928) in 1924 at an auction of the Benguiat collection held at the Anderson Galleries (New York City); in the collection of James B. Ford or Thea (Mrs. George) Heye between 1924 and 1928; donated to MAI by Thea Heye in 1928.
