Said to have been plowed up by Mr. Pierce in 1787; given by his daughter, Mrs. Bower, to Mrs. G. W. Avery (of Hartford, Connecticut) in 1861; given by Mrs. Avery to Frederick S. Perkins (1832-1899, a well-known artifact collector from Wisconsin); acquired by Norton E. Carter (1870-1963, an Indian artifact dealer in Elkhorn, Wisconsin) at an unknown date; purchased by MAI from N.E. Carter in 1926.
