Collection history unknown; formerly in the collection of Daniel Sidney Brown (1853-1919, a St. Louis, Missouri, businessman and collector of snuff boxes and ivory objects); purchased by MAI in 1923 at an auction of items from Daniel Sidney Brown's collection held at the Walpole Galleries (New York City).
