Collection history unknown; formerly in the collection of Silas Downing (1806-1856, of Glen Cove, New York); presented by him through Isaac Coles (1817-1797, a merchant and surveyor in Glen Cove, New York) to the Long Island Historical Society in 1878; lent to MAI by the Long Island Historical Society in 1921; donated to NMAI by the Brooklyn Historical Society in 2020.
