Collection History
Said to have been presented to Chief Warrior (Seneca) at the signing of the Treaty of Big Tree near modern-day Geneseo, south of Rochester, New York, in August 1797; acquired by William Clement Bryant (1830-1898) at an unknown date; inherited by his son William Letchworth Bryant (1871-1947); purchased by MAI from William Letchworth Bryant in 1920 using funds donated by MAI trustee Harmon W. Hendricks (1846-1928).
