Collection history unknown; formerly in the collection of General Carl Christian Schurz (1829-1906, a US senator from Missouri and head of the US Department of the Interior); inherited by General Schurz's children, Carl L. Schurz (1871-1924, a New York City attorney) and Marianne Schurz (1857-1929); lent to MAI by Carl L. Schurz and Marianne Schurz in 1919 and never reclaimed.
