This small ceramic bell was made by Barbara Gonzales, from San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico, whose great-grandmother was the well-known potter María Martínez This bell shows Gonzales’ characteristic style of inlaid turquoise on etched blackware. The sheen on the surface of the bell is achieved through polishing the ceramic with a stone.
